Clean Never Goes Out of Style
After I moved back to Dallas, these were the first spots I wrote at Temerlin McClain. We shot with Frank Tamariello on set in Hollywood. It was the first of many I'd pen at my beloved, now-defunct agency.

Squirrels and Tornados
I wrote a variety of things for Peak. Everything from the damage of tree rats to the torrent of storms. The ads ran in local magazines in North Texas.

Spacemakers
Back in the day, one of the staples of a media buy were things called magazines made of tree-wasting paper, in which ads ran in a formation called “checkerboards.” The ad for the Spacemaker can opener was turned into a TV spot, but since I was a baby copywriter, my bosses produced it. But I was still proud, as the foursome ran in People, Better Homes & Gardens, et al. We even won several awards.

The Gift They’ll Exchange
When my art director and I presented this one, we were met with a mix of responses. Lots of furrowed brows from account executives, but in the end, we prevailed. It ran in The New York Times and we were psyched.

Arias, Librettos & Vibrattos
While freelancing, my art director and I created a campaign for The Dallas Opera. While this art form is thriving in Europe, in the US, not so much. Traditionally, it’s been a bit highbrow, if not elitest. That’s why our messaging was relatable and down-to-earth.

Taking Something Off
This assignment was somehat low-on-the-totem-pole assignment: Create a newspaper insert that included a coupon. But we thought we’d have some fun. The ad raised a few eyebrows, but the client loved it. I think it even helped sell some wine coolers, remember those?

Ogilvy & Mather Health Fair
This was an internal campaign to alert employees about Ogilvy’s annual health fair. We weren't allowed to shoot anything, so no visuals. What did we do? We got scrappy and made the type/font the visual to engage our peeps.

Very Small Business
When I worked at Tribal DDB, I worked on digital point of sale videos that ran in the lobbies of Bank of America. I shot this spot with a local director for a pittance. Translated: I just made it work.

Beach Utopia
This video was used to recuit employees for the Cheap Caribbean call center. I wrote, produced and directed (even starred in!) it with a mighty team of two others, a camera person and AD/stylist. It was even a Communication Arts Finalist.

Cafeteria Fun
When I was Copy Director at Integer, I shot three :15 spots with Tom DeNolf for Luby's To-Go.

Eye Art: Girls Who Wear Glasses
These spots were my very first when I was at Ogilvy. We shot with a campaign called “Eye Art,” a series of :15s, with Moshe Brakha. It was beyond thrilling.

DirecTV Guy
I wrote this radio spot for GTE that was selling Direct TV. We created a persona, “Ken, the DirecTV guy.”
